The Southern California Education and Research Center is announcing fundraising for our well-loved Tony Norton Memorial Fellowship.
The Tony Norton Memorial Fellowship is in honor of Tony Norton, a 1991 MPH graduate of the Department of Environmental Health Sciences in the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health. Tony, who specialized in Industrial Hygiene (the anticipation, identification/recognition, evaluation, control and prevention of worker health stressors), was dedicated to a clean environment and justice in the workplace. These characteristics are the prerequisites for being a truly effective Environmental Health Professional and Industrial Hygienist.
Donations for this award are incredibly valued and appreciated. Inflation, increased university tuition/fees, and rising cost-of-living in the Los Angeles area have prompted the current appeal for more funds to support Master’s students. Gifts through this Fund will help allow students to study and train for their future profession while lessening their financial hardship.
The competition awards two fellowships of $2,000 to the top qualified 1st and 2nd year applicants who meet the following criteria:
- 1st Year and 2nd Year Master’s Student (MS or MPH) in the Department of Environmental Health Sciences.
- Experience in an internship or job related to environmental concerns and/or worker health and safety issues.
- Commitment to the causes of equal health & safety protection for all, and of environmental protection.
- Knowledge of historical & political issues as they relate to environmental health and industrial hygiene, and their implications for future generations.
