Congratulations to our Occupational Health Nursing trainee, Bantale (Remi) Ayisire, for being appointed to serve as a member of the Western Institute of Nursing’s Committee on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).
The Western Institute of Nursing (WIN) is one of four regional nursing research organizations in the U.S. Their mission is to connect nurses in the West to improve the public’s health through nursing research, practice, and education. Members gather each year at WIN’s annual research conference to hear new knowledge.
Remi is currently a PhD candidate at the UCLA School of Nursing with specializations in Psychiatric Health, Public Health, and Occupational/Environmental Health. She has been in psychiatric and public health nursing practice since February 2020. Remi is also an author with the American Medical Association Journal of Ethics, and an Adjunct Instructor at Charles Drew University of Science & Medicine in Los Angeles.
Her service on the DEI Committee comes after her continued involvement as a student member in the organization.
Starting in 2020, WIN formed their Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee in efforts to advance health equity, develop nurse leaders from diverse populations, and increase the number of scholarship awards that focus on health disparities. Some functions are to provide recommendations to the WIN Board of Governors on how to increase diversity, equity, and inclusion within the organization.
Remi is excited to serve on the DEI committee and is looking forward to participating in future meetings. Thank you for helping contribute to increased health equity in the nursing field, and to a healthier public!
