California employers are under more pressure than ever to ensure the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). During this class, we will help employers and employees reduce exposure by the thorough understanding of Cal/OSHA’s hierarchy of controls along with the proper use of PPE.

1. Introduction to the Cal/OSHA requirements for PPE
2. The Cal/OSHA requirements for worksite Hazard Assessments and PPE Certification forms
3. Cal/OSHA training requirements for employers and employees
4. Effective training techniques
5. The different types of PPE:
   • Eye and Face Protection; Head Protection; Hand Protection; Foot Protection; Hearing Protection; Respiratory Protection; Body protection including chemical protective clothing
6. Manager and an employee quiz

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this training, participants will be able to:

• Describe the importance of Cal/OSHA’s hierarchy of controls as it relates to personal protective equipment.
• Identify the different types of personal protective equipment utilized in the general industry.
• Explain and apply the California requirements for training employees regarding personal protective equipment.
• Explain the employer’s responsibilities regarding personal protective equipment including California required PPE Certification form and assessment.
• Explain employee responsibilities regarding personal protective equipment.

2. The different types of personal protective equipment utilized in the general industry:
   • Head Protection
   • Eye & Face protection
   • Hearing Protection and the requirement for a Hearing Conservation Plan
   • Respiratory Protection: Differences between the surgical mask and the N,R and P95 and 100 respirators. Use and limitations. Voluntary use of Respirators vs. the requirement to put in place a Respiratory Protection Program. Respiratory Protection Program elements.
   • Body Protection and chemical protective clothing
   • Hand Protection
   • Foot Protection
3. The elements of training per California requirements.
4. Employer responsibilities
   • The California required PPE Certification of Assessment form
   • Real-life scenarios and examples of non-compliance
5. Employee responsibilities regarding the use of personal protective equipment while at work.

Classes are subject to cancellation by the host due to low registration or scheduling issues. If a class is cancelled by the host, participants will receive a full refund of their original payment.

Participant cancellations must be in writing. Refund schedule due to participant-requested cancellations is:

• 15 or more business days before the class: 80% of registration fee
• 7-14 business days before the class: 50% of registration fee
• Less than 7 days before the class and "no shows": No refund

If course materials such as books have been sent to course participants in advance, the cost of that material will be subtracted from the refund.

UCLA reserves the right to postpone an offering 7 days prior to the course date should minimum enrollment requirements not be met. If a program is canceled, you will be notified and your registration fee will be refunded in full, less the cost of course materials sent in advance if they are not returned in the condition in which they were received. The liability of UCLA is limited to the course fee.
